Regrouping

Christian and I are on the couch snuggling to start the day.We are recouping after a week’s vacation. Today I face a lot of baking, laundry, and catching up.Time is on my side. So pleasant to enjoy home, re appreciate it. The rest of the Summer is pointing towards preparing for the Fall and a new year of homeschooling. I want to spend time in prayer to get myself organized and ordered as God wants me to be.It is easy to get ready by the world’s standards but I really want to include God more this year. He will help me.

Hardys Go Camping

There is something magical about camping.I think it sets the moms off their center of gravity but kids have the times of their lives.Somehow the magic offsets the miserable suffering of the mothers and they allow themselves to experience the joy through their children’s eyes.

Dancing in my Kitchen

I strongly prefer to have my car.Honestly, it un nerves me a bit to not have it running but at the same time I challenge myself to overcome the obstacle to choose contentment,  basically say, yes, I can do this. I don’t often convince myself. I am more caged animal than Mother Theresa. I do talk to God about it and move on.

Today is Friday and we have AWANA(s) we say with an s. Elizabeth is up to memorizing the New Testament and Christian is up to memorizing The Old Testament. At some point in the afternoon I decide we need to nail down our verses so we get out our cd player and start singing the verses. Somehow tis turned into dancing. The music to the Old Testament seemed to say waltz so Christian and I started waltzing as we sang the verses. Elizabeth’s seemed more crazy and tipped over while holding my hands and saying the verses. We normally  don’t memorize verses in this manner but it was just a perfect day.

In the end we didn’t find a ride to AWANAs. The kids were great and didn’t bat an eye. Some days  I want to brag about homeschooling and today is one of them

What an utterly long day

We are stretched well beyond belief and then some. My car won’t start and we are left missing activities. My phone rang three times today and one was a solicitor.Elizabeth has been requesting baked goods and she was so sick last week I have been obliging and indulging her.I googled banana cookie recipe using oil. From  vegweb.com came

Banana Oatmeal Cookies                    350 degrees      8-10 minutes

 1Cup flour

1 1/4 quick oats

1 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

2/3 cup brown sugar

2/3 cup white sugar

1 banana mashed

1 Tablespoon vanilla

1/2 cup corn oil

Mash banana,Add oil and vanilla add other ingredients.Roll into balls and bake. Also tried them rolled in cinnimon sugar like snikerdoodles which was also good.Note: no eggs so technically these are vegan

Oh those donuts

Elizabeth has been suffering from a fever for the past 2 days. She wanted to leave the house to go to The Adams Pastry Shop. The Adams Pastry Shop is really a hole in the wall that makes the most glorious, ginormous, and delicious donuts.I have said often that they are the size of Jack’s cerebellum. They are so wonderful but really the antithesis of brain food. Something about the shape of Jack’s  head and the size of the donuts that go together Here’s where we say God bless America for people who have a talent and use it. Those beautiful donuts. It should be noted, in a world full of peanut allergies,Adam’s Pastry Shop still makes the wonderful peanut donut, a personal favorate that has gotten me through too many long Winters.

When it came time to leave for the donut shop Elizabeth was too pooped to go but she did enjoy the donuts

Exhausted

I find when I am tired it is hard for me to be the leader of my team. When I just want to sit back, regroup, read magazines and otherwise refrag myself from an enjoyable but unplanned overnight at my sister’s house, it is hard for me to motivate my children to do something other than their version of that. I did manage to feed and bathe them so tomorrow is a fresh start.
